The Dolley Suite.
What was preserved.
Dolley Madison carried two worlds within her, raised in one tradition and bound by marriage to another, and on the night the capital burned, she refused to let George Washington’s portrait fall into the flames, carrying it and other treasures of the young nation out ahead of the fire. Warm and gracious in the American Craftsman tradition, this home honors that instinct: to know what is worth protecting, and to carry it through the fire. It is the house of what we refuse to lose.
